Parippu Curry is a simple yet iconic dish in Kerala’s Onam Sadya. It is prepared with dal (traditionally moong dal, but masoor dal can also be used) cooked with coconut paste, and finally served with a drizzle of fresh ghee. It pairs perfectly with hot rice and papadam.
๐ฅ Ingredients
(Serves 4–5)

Masoor dal / Moong dal – ½ cup

Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp

Salt – as needed

Ghee – 2 tbsp

Curry leaves – 1 sprig
To grind (coconut paste):

Grated coconut – ½ cup

Green chilies – 2

Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
๐ฒ Preparation Steps

Wash dal well and cook with turmeric, salt, and enough water until soft. Mash lightly.

Grind coconut, green chilies, and cumin into a smooth paste.

Add the paste to the cooked dal, mix, and simmer for 3–4 minutes.

Drizzle with ghee and garnish with curry leaves.

Serve hot with rice and papadam as the first item of the Sadya meal.
